School counseling is needed in today’s schools, particularly to feel that the school is a warm, nurturing and empowering place. School counseling is also needed to support students in important development domains, i.e educational, personal, social and emotional development.
The counseling department strives to empower students to achieve their personal, social, emotional and academic success. Emotional, social and behavioral concerns can interfere with a student’s academic progress; therefore the students experiencing these concerns can be helped and supported by the school counselor.

- Counseling Programs
Counseling programs provide prevention and intervention services, which are integrated into all aspects of student’s lives. Early identification and intervention of students’ emotional and personal/social needs are essential in promoting academic achievements.
Personal-social development consists of identification and awareness of self and respect for others, development of strategies for processing feelings, emotions, problem solving, conflict resolution, and the development and monitoring of behavior management plans.
Accordingly, the counseling department provides:
1. Student Development
The student development promotes knowledge, attitudes and skills through instruction in three areas: emotional, personal and social growth. It provides guidance content in a systematic way for the purpose of skill development and application of skill learned.
2. Responsive Services
- The department focuses on the immediate needs of students and groups.
- The responsive services include:
- Individual Counseling:
School Counselors intervene with students whose personal or academic problems are affecting their social and educational development. School counselors intervene through individual counseling. This service is often student-initiated through self-referral; teachers, staff, and parents.
- Small Group Counseling:
Small group counseling provides students with assistance to improve skills in the areas of personal/social, and academic development. Small group counseling units and sessions address topics related to personal/social and academic development. The ultimate goal of small group counseling is to assist students with developing awareness of interpersonal issues, to develop strategies and skills to positively impact their school achievement and to increase appropriate social interaction skills.
3. System Support
System support consists of activities that establish, maintain and enhance the total school counseling program as part of the overall educational program. System support includes professional development, consultation and collaboration.
We believe in the importance of the emotional and social development for students. Therefore, AZM Counseling Department aims to help students develop and grow and be better prepared for the challenges of adulthood.
