Arabic Language Department

انطلاقا من وظيفة اللّغة، أداة للتّواصل والتّفكير والإبداع، يسعى قسم اللّغة العربيّة في مدرسة العزم إلى اعتماد تصوّر جديد يسعى إلى:

• اعتماد العربيّة الفصيحة لغة للتّواصل والتّعلم.
• ربط اللّغة بالحياة وجعلها وظيفيّة إلى جانب تنميتها عند المتعلم : لغة، أدباً وإبداعاً.
• الأهداف العامّة للّغة العربيّة تنقسم إلى أهداف متعلّقة ببناء شخصيّة المتعلّم الفرد والمواطن، وأهداف متعلّقة بتعزيز كفاية المتعلّم اللّغويّة.
• أهداف متعلّقة ببناء شخصيّة المتعلّم الفرد والمواطن:                  

            - اتخاذ مواقف صحيحة من القضايا التي تواجهه في حياته.

            - توظيف مّادة اللّغة العربية و آدابها في تنمية طاقاته الفكريّة و الوجدانيّة و السلوكيّة. 

           - التّعلّم الذّاتيّ عن طريق البحث والاستكشاف والعمل الفريقيّ والتّدريب على الاستفادة من المكتبات واستخدام المراجع والمعاجم 

              وسائر مصادر المعلومات.

           - ربط اللّغة بالحياة عبر مواقف محببة ومشوقة، مثيرة لاهتمام الطالب.

           - اعتماد الفصحى لغة تواصل وتعليم وإيجاد ألفة بينه وبينها.

           - التّمكّن من القواعد الأساسيّة ، لا سيما الوظيفيّة في تعاطيه اللّغويّ، وإبراز طاقاته واستعداداته الخاصّة.

           - تثبيت معرفته بقواعد اللّغة وصولاً إلى الفهم الدّقيق والتّعبير السّليم.

           - اكتشاف نظام لغته العربيّة في بناها الوظيفيّة وأساليبها الجمالية ، وصولاً إلى الإنشاء والإبداع.

           - تدريب الطّالب على الكفايات والمهارات المنصوص عنها في مادة السّنة الدّراسيّة أو في سنتي الشّهادتين الرّسميتين.

           - توفير مادة شيّقة عمليّة مفيدة معاصرة للطّلاب الّذين لغتهم العربيّة هي اللّغة الثّانية (ASL).

           - إنفتاح الدائرة العربية على مناهج عالمية يمكن للمدرسة اعتمادها: البكالوريا الفرنسية والبكالوريا الدولية IB

 

French Language Department

L’enseignement du français à l’école AZM s’inscrit dans une démarche de qualité ciblant la promotion d'une langue pragmatisée, qui est, à la fois, adaptée au contexte libanais plurilingue et conforme aux finalités générales des Bulletins Officiels français (BO) : l’acquisition de savoirs, la constitution d’une culture, la formation personnelle et la formation du citoyen.

Cet enseignement est porteur de trois finalités interdépendantes méritant une égale attention : la maîtrise de la langue, la connaissance de la littérature et l’appropriation d’une culture.

Ainsi, L’enseignement du français :

• Contribue à la constitution d’une culture par la lecture de textes, principalement d’œuvres littéraires significatives. Il forme l’attention aux significations de ces œuvres, aux questionnements dont elles sont porteuses et aux débats d’idées qui caractérisent chaque époque. Par-là, il permet aux élèves de construire une perspective historique sur l’espace culturel auquel ils appartiennent, structurer la réflexion sur l’histoire littéraire et culturelle, sur les genres et les registres, sur la signification et la singularité des textes, sur l’argumentation et les effets de chaque discours sur ses destinataires.
• Favorise la formation personnelle de l’élève en donnant à chacun une meilleure maîtrise de la langue et en l’amenant à mieux structurer sa pensée et ses facultés de jugement et d’imagination. Il doit lui permettre de savoir organiser sa pensée et de présenter, par oral et par écrit, des exposés construits abordant les questions traitées selon plusieurs perspectives coordonnées ;
• Participe à la formation du citoyen, grâce à la connaissance de l’héritage pluriculturel, à la réflexion sur les opinions et à la capacité d’argumenter.

Les textes

La formation d’une culture et la connaissance de la littérature demandent des lectures nombreuses et diversifiées. L’enseignement du français porte donc avant tout sur les œuvres, essentiellement littéraires. En effet, les œuvres littéraires, par leurs effets esthétiques et les idées qu’elles véhiculent, constituent à cet égard des objets d’une richesse particulière.

          La lecture d’œuvres majeures du passé et d’œuvres contemporaines permet aux élèves, non seulement, de développer leur curiosité et de nourrir leur imagination, mais aussi, d’acquérir les                  éléments d’une culture commune.

La langue

La maîtrise de la langue est la condition première de l’accès aux textes et de la formation de la pensée. Elle engage l’identité individuelle et collective. Aussi représente-t-elle une finalité essentielle et doit-elle être enrichie sans cesse pour répondre aux besoins des élèves.

           Une maîtrise parfaite du vocabulaire, de la syntaxe et des formes de discours est à la fois une spécificité de l’enseignement du français et la condition de réussite dans les autres disciplines.                   C’est pourquoi, les élèves doivent être capables d’utiliser avec pertinence, tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit, des principales formes de discours pour confronter, de manière cohérente et convaincante,                   plusieurs types de représentations, d’analyses ou d’idées.

           À cette issue, on ne manquera pas d’associer à l’étude des textes et à l’expression écrite des temps d’étude de la langue, du point de vue morphologique, syntaxique, discursif et stylistique.

La formation d’une culture

La culture prend forme par les lectures et la mise en relation des textes entre eux. Mais elle exige aussi de les confronter à d’autres langages, dont le discours de l’image. Par ailleurs, cette culture se structure grâce à une mise en perspective historique et, à cet égard, la richesse des savoirs pour l’étude des textes et de la littérature impose de privilégier, au cours des années de formation, les mouvements et phénomènes qui constituent les grandes scansions de l’histoire littéraire et culturelle, et les genres majeurs. La mise en perspective historique se construira donc par l’approche des moments clés de l’histoire des lettres, de la pensée et de l’esthétique.

Le département de mathématiques

Les mathématiques sont cruciales non seulement pour réussir à l'école, mais aussi pour être un citoyen informé, être productif dans sa carrière et s’épanouir au niveau personnel. L’école AZM place la compréhension, l'application des nombres et des opérations, l'algèbre, la géométrie, la mesure, l'analyse de données et les statistiques, la résolution de problèmes et les compétences de raisonnement comme des priorités absolues. Grâce à leurs expériences à l'école AZM, les élèves doivent avoir une solide compréhension du calcul mathématique, des concepts et des processus, de la résolution de problèmes, du raisonnement et de l'analyse tout en utilisant les mathématiques pour donner un sens et résoudre des problèmes complexes dans une variété d'applications.
Les enseignants encouragent les compétences de résolution de problèmes et une curiosité exploratoire chez tous les élèves pour assurer des compétences d’esprit critique. L'apprentissage coopératif en classe est essentiel pour accroître la sensibilisation des élèves à la valeur de la coopération, pour renforcer les compétences de communication en mathématiques et pour promouvoir une société alphabétisée en mathématiques.

Le département des Sciences

L'enseignement des sciences à l'école AZM fournit aux élèves les outils nécessaires pour étudier, comprendre et expliquer notre monde naturel et physique et l'univers au sens large. Cela implique de générer et de tester des idées, de rassembler des preuves en faisant des observations, de mener des enquêtes et de la modélisation, de communiquer et de débattre avec les autres - afin de développer des connaissances, une compréhension et des explications scientifiques.
La science inculque aux élèves la capacité de résoudre des problèmes et de prendre des décisions éclairées dans de nombreux domaines de la vie. Bon nombre des principaux défis et opportunités auxquels notre monde est confronté doivent être abordés d'un point de vue scientifique, en tenant compte des considérations sociales et éthiques.

Le département des sciences sociales

Le but des sciences sociales est d'aider à créer une compréhension et une croyance dans les droits essentiels de l'homme, les valeurs démocratiques et l'égalité, et d'encourager l'idée de la citoyenneté active et de la participation démocratique.

           Les sciences sociales doivent favoriser le développement des connaissances sur la diversité culturelle dans notre monde, passé et présent. Cela aidera également les élèves à prendre conscience             que l'humanité fait partie d'un contexte historique et qu'une longue chaîne d'événements historiques nous a conduits à devenir ce que nous sommes aujourd'hui.

           Les sciences sociales ont pour objectif d’aider les élèves à comprendre comment la société en général influence les attitudes, les connaissances et les actions et comment l'individu peut                         influencer la société à travers sa propre situation de vie.

           Les sciences sociales sont intégrées au programme scolaire grâce à une combinaison de trois matières – histoire, géographie et éducation civique.

Ces matières aident les enfants à développer:

• Une conscience du monde et de l'environnement : cette connaissance permet aux élèves de comprendre comment le monde et les différentes sociétés ont évolué, les événements importants qui se sont produits dans le passé, les idées durables et les personnalités éminentes qui ont créé un impact et affecté la vie de personnes. Il aide également les élèves à comprendre comment les différentes sociétés ont été structurées, gérées et gouvernées. Cela aide, à son tour, les élèves à comprendre leur place dans le monde.
• Des capacités de réflexion critique: les sciences sociales inculquent des capacités et des compétences de réflexion d'ordre supérieur telles que: la compréhension, l’application, l’analyse, l’évaluation et la synthèse et la créativité chez les élèves. Les informations obtenues permettent aux élèves de faire des observations pertinentes, d'identifier les similitudes et les différences, d'établir des liens entre des concepts, des idées et des ressources connexes.
• Une meilleure citoyenneté: : En fournissant des informations, des connaissances, des compétences et des attitudes pertinentes, l'étude des sciences sociales prépare les élèves à devenir des membres actifs, responsables et réfléchis de la société.

Le département informatique

Le programme informatique de l'école AZM développe la familiarité avec les utilisations fonctionnelles de l'ordinateur grâce à l'utilisation de logiciels programmés pour les classes du second cycle. Pour les classes du troisième cycle, l'accent est mis sur les compétences telles que le traitement de texte, la base de données, la composition et la saisie, ainsi que l'utilisation de feuilles de calcul. L'apprentissage n'est pas seulement axé sur l'acquisition de compétences informatiques, mais également sur la mise à jour dans le domaine des nouvelles technologies modernes et sur la promotion des compétences cognitives telles que l’esprit critique, l’esprit de créativité et la résolution de problèmes. Cela est en relation étroite avec l'une des valeurs fondamentales de l’école AZM qui est « l'Innovation ».

Beaux-Arts

L'enseignement des Beaux-Arts contribue à un épanouissement total de la personne; il favorise l'expression individuelle; il permet l'expérimentation avec divers matériaux et éléments ; il permet l'exploration et l'appréciation des œuvres d'autres élèves et d’artistes majeurs; il développe une conscience et une sensibilité envers l'environnement et favorise enfin une compréhension plus profonde du patrimoine et de la culture.

L’éducation physique et sportive

L’un des principaux objectifs du département d’éducation physique et sportive est le bien être absolu de chaque élève. Ce programme a une approche complète et globale qui a pour but de développer nos élèves physiquement, mentalement, émotionnellement, spirituellement et socialement.

          Notre programme d'éducation physique reconnaît la valeur d'enseigner aux élèves à rester physiquement actifs et à développer les compétences nécessaires pour les loisirs présents et futurs.                Pour atteindre cet objectif, ce programme aide les élèves à identifier leurs points forts, à s'appuyer sur ces derniers et à atteindre leurs objectifs personnels.

L’éducation musicale

L'éducation musicale offre une opportunité unique de préparation à la culture musicale. Que les enfants chantent, jouent ou écoutent, les enseignants les incitent à écouter et à entendre de différentes manières innovantes qui favorisent leur discrimination auditive. Jouer des instruments de musique et ajouter du mouvement aux leçons enseignent aux enfants l'apprentissage séquentiel qui est essentiel à la compréhension de la lecture. La musique affecte la croissance du cerveau d'un enfant sur les plans scolaire, émotionnel, physique et spirituel.

 

 

English Language Department

Language arts are fundamental in anchoring one’s thinking and communicating one’s ideas effectively. The skills of reading critically, writing forcefully, speaking clearly, and listening actively are the key.

The English language literacy program from K-12 presents the AZM's identified English Common Core Standards that ensure academic components are aligned with the Lebanese National Curriculum.  The applied language features, comprehensively identify and support AZM's students learner profile.

As students travel through their time at AZM School, their facility with and understanding of language animates their work across the disciplines. We see language work interwoven across the day, so that conversations, vocabulary, and craft become a seamless part of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in all classrooms.

READING

To become skilled readers, students must read widely and deeply from among a broad range of high-quality, increasingly challenging literary and informational texts. Through extensive reading of stories, dramas, and poems from diverse cultures and different time periods, students gain literary and cultural knowledge, as well as familiarity with various text structures and elements, including digital media. By reading texts in history/social studies, science, and other disciplines, they build a foundation of knowledge in these fields that will also give them the background needed to be better leaders. The curriculum is intentionally and coherently structured to develop rich content knowledge within and across all grades. 

WRITING

The act of writing itself enhances one’s ability to make meaning of experience for oneself and others. Creating text expands thinking, generates knowledge, and shares and communicates understanding. Writing involves effort, risk, and purpose; it takes practice, trial and error, exposure, direct instruction, time, and social support.

At AZM School, students learn how to generate writing ideas across topics and genres and become increasingly skillful at crafting a polished final piece. They appreciate that writing is a recursive process that involves prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Each year, students demonstrate increasing sophistication in all aspects of language use, from vocabulary and syntax to the development and organization of ideas. 

SPEAKING AND LISTENING

Each day, students take part in a variety of rich, structured conversations—as part of a whole class, in small groups, or with a partner. They learn to contribute accurate, relevant information; respond to and develop what others have said; and analyze and synthesize a multitude of ideas in various domains. Students learn to integrate information from oral, visual, quantitative, and media sources and are encouraged to evaluate what they hear, to use media and visual displays strategically to help achieve communicative purposes, and to adapt speech to context and task. New technologies have broadened the role that speaking and listening play in acquiring and sharing knowledge.  

In the early grades, students

• Build foundational skills for reading by developing and attending to a strong phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. 
• Use writing as a way to offer and support opinions, to demonstrate understanding of the subjects they are studying, and to convey real and imagined experiences and events.
• Develop the capacity to build knowledge on a subject through research projects and to respond analytically to literary and informational sources.
• Establish active listening and effective and civil speaking skills and learn the conventions of language through dramatic play, read-alouds, discussions, and sharing. 

In the upper grades, students

• Are becoming proficient readers with the capacity to comprehend texts across a range of genres and disciplines
• Gain a reservoir of literary and cultural knowledge, references, and images by reading literature and literary nonfiction of steadily increasing sophistication
• Develop the ability to evaluate intricate arguments; and the capacity to surmount the challenges posed by complex texts
• Become increasingly proficient in taking task, purpose, and audience into consideration in their writing, choosing words, information, structures, and formats deliberately
• Become adept at gathering information, evaluating sources, and citing material accurately, reporting findings from their research and analysis of sources in a clear and cogent manner.
• Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, and mechanics when writing 
• Continue to hone their skills as active listeners and clear and respectful speakers in a diverse and scholarly community.
• Become increasingly adept at building a positive learning environment that values pride, respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, diversity innovation, empathy, and self-control

Math Department

AZM School places the understanding, application of numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and statistics, problem-solving, and reasoning skills as a top priority. Through their experiences at AZM School, students are expected to have a strong understanding of mathematical computation, concepts and processes, problem solving, reasoning and analysis while using mathematics to make sense of, and to solve complex problems in a variety of applications.

Teachers promote problem-solving skills and an exploratory curiosity in all students to assure critical thinking skills. Cooperative learning in the classroom is essential to increase student awareness in the value of cooperation.

Science Department

Teaching Science at AZM School provides the students the necessary tools for investigating, understanding, and explaining our natural, physical world and the wider universe. It involves generating and testing ideas, gathering evidence by making observations, carrying out investigations and modeling, and communicating and debating with others – in order to develop scientific knowledge, understanding, and explanations. For this purpose, our School is provided by Three Equipped laboratories for biology, physics and chemistry. 

Science instills in pupils the ability to solve problems and make informed decisions in many areas of life. Many of the major challenges and opportunities that confront our world need to be approached from a scientific perspective, taking into account social and ethical considerations

Social Studies Department

The purpose of the social studies subject is to help create understanding and belief in essential human rights, democratic values and equality, and to encourage the idea of active citizenship and democratic participation.

The subject shall encourage the development of knowledge on cultural diversity in the world in the past and the present. It will also help students to develop awareness that mankind is part of a historical context, and that a long chain of historical events has led us to become what we are today.

This subject will help the students to understand how society in general influences attitudes, knowledge and actions and how the individual can influence society and his or her own life situation.

Social Studies is incorporated in the school curriculum through a combination of 3 subjects– History, Geography, Civics.

These subjects help children to develop:

-Awareness of The World and Environment: This knowledge enables the students to understand how the world and different societies have evolved, the important events that have occurred in the past, long-lasting ideas and eminent personalities that have created an impact and affected the lives of people. It also helps students to understand how different societies are structured, managed and governed. This in turn helps students to understand their place in the world.

-Helps to Develop Critical Thinking Abilities: Social Studies instill higher order thinking abilities and skills like – Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Evaluation and Synthesis, Creativity in students. The information gained allows students to make relevant observations, identify similarities and differences, make connections between related concepts, ideas and resources.

-Helps Students To Become Better Citizens: By providing relevant information and knowledge, skills and attitudes, the study of Social studies prepares students to grow up as active, responsible, and reflective members of society.

 

IT Department

The IT curriculum at AZM School develops a sense of familiarity with functional uses of the computer through the use of programmed software and applications in the elementary school.

In the middle and secondary school, the skills are developed to an advanced level such as building websites, designing and coding applications, word processing, database, composition and entry, and the use of spreadsheets are emphasized.

The learning goals are not only focused on acquiring computer skills but also in the process of keeping the students up to date with newest technology trends worldwide. It is mainly focusing on developing a creative and innovative mindset for the students who will be able to come up with remarkable innovations in the future to add to the local and national community.

These IT learning goals are totally aligned with AZM school values that emphasizes on leadership and positive change in the local community.

Fine Arts

 At AZM School we highly value Art lessons, because we deeply acknowledge their great significance .We promote an effective education related to Arts, so that the students could be aware of its deep implication. We provide our leading citizens with the artistic skills needed to be used in art activities from A to Z, starting from KG1 to grade 8. Preschoolers have the means to capture various basic artistic skills including cutting, punching and pasting to list only few, allowing them to enhance and develop their artistic work. Learners who have the passion for Arts lead their way until they have mastered their artistic skills. The Art room at AZM School is almost perfect; it provides our young artists with all the materials available to artistically widen their horizons and keep them updated and in touch with all events like Independence Day and Mother's Day through distinguished art activities and projects.

Physical Education

Physical education leads to the total wellbeing of each student. This is achieved through a complete program and comprehensive approach to developing our students physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and socially.

Our quality Physical Education program recognizes the value of teaching students to stay physically active, disciplined and develop skills needed for present and future leisure. Physical education program aims to assist students in creating and identifying their strengths, to build on these strengths, and to achieve personal goals.

Music Education

Music education provides a unique opportunity for music literacy preparation. Whether the children are singing, playing or listening to music, teachers direct them to listen and hear in new ways that exercise their aural discrimination. Playing instruments and adding movement to the lessons teaches children about sequential learning that is essential in reading comprehension and Math.

Drama Education

Dramatic arts education helps to develop children’s imagination by making them think ‘outside the square’. Children can be placed in situations they haven’t found themselves in before and have to find unique solutions to solve the problems. And helps them to understand how different people can feel and think in a given situation, which is a key life skill to develop in children. 

One of the amazing benefits in drama class is how it helps your confidence grow. Then there's the fact that drama is a great deal of fun, and we all know how good laughter is for us. Sometimes we need to let our creative side loose. Frequently our everyday lives do not provide any opportunities to use our imagination, and drama is a fantastic way of unleashing your creativity. 

The mission of Drama’s Education Department is to awaken the minds, imaginations, and creative power of children, teenagers, and young adults by providing opportunities for them to experience the joy of live theatre as performing, dancing, directing, choreography, playwriting, storytelling, music theatre, children's theatre, theatre history, criticism, costume and light design. And to produce theatre artists who will become the innovators and leaders of an ever-expanding performing arts profession.

We're confirmed in our belief that drama is a significant element of a holistic educational experience, laying strong foundations for a successful and happy life. Students learn to collaborate, they build confidence, they're supported in the development of social fundamentals like listening and communicating, empathy and compassion. This is an environment which builds resilience, provides a clear understanding of the value of failing in the journey towards success; it teaches accountability and responsibility and hones critical and creative thinking.

We believe that there are no right and wrong answers when it comes to being creative. We can't all be professional actors but there is often a very high standard in amateur theatre.
